The North Star Team is committed to spreading the word about the North Star Girls
Group at Camp Program. They are knowledgeable individuals who feel strongly about
the effectiveness of the North Star Curriculum and are excited about introducing
the program to camps around the country. They are committed to helping girls feel
more empowered, confident and positive about themselves.
Heidi is the founder, creator and author of the North Star Girls Group Curriculum
and of the North Star Girls Group at Camp Program. Over the last ten years she
has facilitated countless numbers of North Star Groups in schools and she is
dedicated to helping girls feel more connected with each other, with adults and
with their communities. She is excited about the debut of the North Star Camp
Program. Click here for more information.
Patti has been involved in camping services for 10 years. Her passion for children
and love of learning/experiencing new things has fueled her growth in the field. Her
roles have developed from a counselor in training to managing various activity areas
to director. Though she’s worked outside the field as an interior designer as well,
she feels she’s really learned the most about life, commitments, creativity,
relationships, responsibility and herself while working at camps. Patti is very excited
and honored to further her work with children and teens by joining the North Star
Girls Group organization. She is committed to the growth of the program and the
important themes and messages it teaches to young girls.
Scott is one of the leading experts in camping and has been involved as a camper, counselor,
administrator and consultant for over twenty years. He has his B.A. from Ithaca College
where he double majored in sociology & psychology with a concentration
in gender studies. Professionally he has worked with kids of all ages
and stages as a preschool teacher, social worker, camp director and
consultant. He has spoken at numerous camps, conferences, training
seminars and other professional events over the years and is currently
one of the most sought after trainers & presenters.
Karin is a doctoral student in Counseling Psychology at the University of Oregon,
where she is focusing on participatory action research and intervention and prevention
programs for children, adolescents, and families. Karin has worked with children in
many contexts for over ten years, as a camp counselor, outdoor educator, nanny, tutor,
interventionist, and researcher. Currently she is a Practicum Therapist at the
University Counseling and Testing Center and a University Supervisor for 15 undergraduates
doing child-focused internships. Karin saw the benefits of North Star Girls Group in
action at Camp Algonquian in northern Michigan, and now she is thrilled to be a part
of the North Star Team. She hopes to write her dissertation on a topic related to
young women’s empowerment.
